Sadaqah Jariyah: A Lasting Legacy to Support Children in Need

The prophet Mohammad once said, “Treat your sick ones with charity.”

Sadaqah Jariyah is one form of charity that’s highly esteemed in Islam. It creates an ongoing, positive impact on the lives of those in need and saves them from suffering.

The 2 types of Sadaqah

1. Sadaqah

A singular act of charity

2. Sadaqah Jariyah

An ongoing charitable act that gives long-term rewards to the receivers

What is Sadaqah Jariyah?

Sadaqah Jariyah, meaning continuous charity in Islam. For the giver, it’s a voluntary act of giving where they either assign a sum to give on a regular basis or invest in projects that will give long-lasting charitable results.

It’s an investment in this life and the one after. In Quran, the Sadaqah Jariya promises to increase our wealth and give rewards for their good deeds even after their passing.

As for the receivers, such as orphans, widows, or anyone in need, it’s a form of charity that impacts and supports their lives.

Forms of Sadaqah Jariyah

There are various forms of Sadaqah Jariyah, each contributing to the betterment of society in different ways.

Some of them include:

1. Building or supporting educational institutions

By funding schools, universities, or other educational projects, donors can provide essential resources to improve the lives of underprivileged children and orphans in need.

2. Providing clean water resources

Clean water is essential for healthy living. Donating to projects that ensure access to clean water can drastically improve the quality of life for impoverished communities.

3. Contributing to healthcare facilities

Supporting hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare projects can help provide much-needed medical care to those who cannot afford it.

4. Sponsoring a Child

When you sponsor a child, you provide them with essential resources like education, healthcare, and a safe environment and pave the way for their future success and well-being.

Difference between Zakat and Sadaqah Jariyah

Zakat is a mandatory form of giving in Islam and is considered one of the Five Pillars of the faith. It is an obligatory act of worship that purifies one’s wealth and ensures the well-being of the needy in society.

On the other hand, Sadaqah Jariyah is a voluntary act of charity that impacts the lives of anyone benefitting from it.

Both forms of giving play crucial roles in enhancing child welfare, and when combined, they can create a powerful and transformative impact on the lives of underprivileged children.
